leaves Breakfast Show
Mpho Nefale joined the then Radio Venda, SABC Radio, in 1984 as a Junior Presenter. He was responsible for News Presentation and Station’s Outside Broadcast shows. When some of the staff members were retrenched in 1985, he remained behind with only 11 other presenters. Mpho climbed up the ladder through his hard work. He was promoted to a Specialist Presenter position in 1996. Since 1984, Mpho has been presenting different shows for Phalaphala FM with aplomb. He has always shown commitment to whatever show he was assigned to present. When the then Radio Venda merged with Radio Thohoyandou to form Phalaphala FM in 1998, Mpho was moved from one program to another, in an effort to accommodate new staff members and listeners. His versatility allowed him to adapt to all the shows that were allocated to him.
Here are some of the programmes that Mpho did in these 35 years on Radio:-
- Morning Drive
- Afternoon Drive
- Early Morning show
- Week-end Evening show
- Sunday Morning Drive Show
- Current Affairs
- Outside Broadcast show
- Pick ‘n Box Show.
As a presenter, Mpho Nefale has been a recipient of many awards, namely:
- 1990 Most Entertaining Radio Presenter.
- 1993 Best Radio Presenter
- 1994 Best Radio Presenter
- 1995 Best Radio Presenter
Although he has been in the industry for many years, listeners cannot seem to get enough of him, for, efforts to rest him have been met with resistance from listeners. To demonstrate that he has built an emotional bond with the Station’s listeners, Mpho has been an integral part of the Station’s overseas tours over the past twenty six years. Listeners have insisted that Mpho be part of the tours mainly because they enjoy the way he relates to them and appreciate his humble personality and sense of humour. He has since been to different destinations with the listeners, like, Argentina, Brazil, France, Spain, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Portuguese Island, Mauritius, etc.
He is surely a legend of the broadcast industry. Now Mpho Nefale will be leaving Vhandilani Show as from the 1st April 2020. This has been a well journey travelled.
